NEW JERSEY (PIX11) – Over $146,000 has been raised for the family of a New Orleans terror attack victim with ties to New Jersey.
Billy DiMaio, 25, of Holmdel, was among the 14 people killed in the Jan. 1 terror attack in New Orleans, according to his company. As of Tuesday afternoon, more than 1,000 people had donated over $146,400 to a GoFundMe page for DiMaio’s family.
“Billy DiMaio was a rare soul, defined by his humility, kindness, humor, and boundless love for those around him. Anyone fortunate enough to meet him instantly felt the warmth of his positive energy and vibrant spirit,” loved ones wrote on a memorial page for the 25-year-old.
A funeral mass is scheduled for DiMaio on Thursday in New Jersey.
DiMaio was born in East Islip and later moved to Holmdel, where he went to high school.
Before the attack, he was working as an account executive for Audacy, and his coworkers remember him for his “unwavering work ethic, positive attitude, and kindness,” according to an Audacy spokesperson. He was a meticulous planner with a big vision for his future, his loved ones said.
"A natural leader, Billy cared passionately about helping others succeed. Whether captaining his lacrosse team or simply checking in on a friend, he was always there to lift others up. His friends were his chosen family, and he treasured every moment spent with them, especially at the Jersey Shore, where laughter and unforgettable memories were shared," loved ones wrote.
