Trapped deer rescued from under ice in Copake
COPAKE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Cold water rescue crews were dispatched in Copake on Monday to rescue a deer trapped under the ice, according to a Facebook post by the Copake Fire Company #1. The incident happened on a property on Empire Road.
The firefighters were dispatched to the scene around noon on Monday, the post said. After performing an initial safety and risk assessment, a cold water rescue team moved into the water and guided the tired and frightened deer back to the shoreline.
The rescue comes as bitter cold temperatures grip the Capital Region. Officials urge the public to use extreme caution when on icy roads or near frozen bodies of water.
