Pittsfield launches free naloxone distribution program
PITTSFIELD, Mass. (NEWS10) — The Pittsfield Health Department will now be providing free naloxone kits, city officials announced on Tuesday. The initiative comes after the department qualified to participate in the state’s Community Naloxone Program.
Naloxone, also known as Narcan, is a medication that is sprayed into the nose to quickly reverse opioid overdose and restore breathing within minutes. Approved by the Food and Drug Administration, the medication is safe and has no potential for abuse.
Pittsfield residents can pick up a free naloxone kit at the Pittsfield Health Department located at 100 North Street, Mezzanine Level. The building is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
