Brit sitcom legend, 67, looks unrecognisable on holiday – but can you guess who she is?
A BRITISH icon has wished everyone a happy new year after jetting abroad for a sunsoaked getaway.
This famed comedy legend posted a hilarious video on Instagram to share her attempts at speaking Italian and/or Spanish – with mixed results at best.
Dawn was heard attempting to speak in Spanish/Italian in the funny clip[/caption] The star is taking a well-deserved sunsoaked getaway away from dreary London[/caption] Dawn is beloved for her comedy roles including Vicar of Dibley[/caption]Dawn French, beloved for her work on French and Saunders, The Vicar of Dibley and Murder Most Horrid, has whisked herself off from the cold British weather for some sun and relaxation.
Looking fresh-faced and happy, Dawn protected herself from the sun with a hat as she spoke to the camera, trying to remember the local language as she talked to her fans.
Flipping between Spanish and Italian, Dawn was seen struggling before eventually relenting and saying: “Chips, please.”
It’s unclear where Dawn currently is but she seems to be having a blast.
It was announced last year that Dawn is soon to be returning to our screens in a new BBC sitcom, Can You Keep A Secret? alongside Friday Night Dinner and Green Wing star, Mark Heap.
She will play “widow” Debbie Fenton, who lands on the chance of a lifetime when her husband William (Heap) is mistakenly declared dead.
Both now retired, the duo decide to keep William hidden in the loft until the life insurance is paid out and they can live their golden years in style – but that’s easier said than done, with their son struggling to deal with the secret.
On the announcement, she joked of her new role: “At last…a sitcom where I can keep my top on…mostly.”
Dawn also spoke out about her feelings about reports on her weight loss in a characteristically blunt way – telling people to “f**k off” when judging her physicality.
In 2014, Dawn made headlines after losing seven stone after a major health struggle, that resulted in her needing a hysterectomy after a cancer scare.
She was instructed to lose weight by doctors to help her speed up recovery time.
But she says that she’s always loved who she is and reducing her success to her image is unjust.
Speaking to The Times, she said: “I have never rejected the bigger woman I have been. Lots of people do it and say, ‘Oh, you look so much better – now you look well.’ And I think, ‘F*** off! Don’t judge that other person who I loved.’
In 2023, Dawn revealed that she had knee replacement surgery, which took her out of work as she recovered. Now she’s ready to get back on screen.
