ITV viewers have already been hooked on new drama Playing Nice, after the initial episode aired.
Playing Nice features James Norton as Pete, Niamh Algar as Maddie, James McArdle as Miles with Theo and Jessica Brown-Findlay as Lucy[/caption] Actor James McArdle has teased the ITV drama will ‘get a lot darker’[/caption]The drama follows two couples who are notified that their sons had been switched at birth, bringing into question whether they continue to raise the son they have or switch to have their biological child.
While both sets of parents initially do get along and try to form a solution in order to be in both of the children’s lives, it’s clear things won’t end well.
With Happy Valley star James Norton as Pete and Niamh Algar as Maddie, they meet their counterparts Miles played by James McArdle and Lucy (Downton Abbey star Jessica Brown Findlay).
Now actor James McArdle has revealed that viewers should prepare themselves as the second half of the thriller ‘gets a lot darker’.
Speaking to Radio Times, he explained: “There’s a switch in the second half of the series where… and I’m not giving anything away or anything, but it gets a lot darker, especially between the two of them [Maddie and Miles].
“From the midpoint of the season, it does change, and it did feel like two halves.
“Like more of the domestic, shallow sort of niggles you do to each other, and the second half of the series, there was an interaction between the two of us that’s quite surprising.”
Highlighting his character Miles, who appears to have a darker motive, he added: “There’s just no losing, I think that’s his ethos – just that he’ll never, ever give up.
“So, these people are just obstacles in his way. It was a great part to play.”
Those that have watched the series have also been hooked on McArdle’s performance with some calling him ‘the ultimate villain’.
One wrote on X alongside a picture of the actor as Myles: “Just when you thought Sonia in #GavinandStaceyFinale and Feathers McGraw in #WallaceAndGromit were the biggest TV Villains…Along comes this T*** in #PlayingNice.”
Another shared: “Catching up on #PlayingNice within the first hour of watching this, I loathe miles. It’s credit to the actor playing him that I want to toe punt my tv in!“
“It’s absolutely brilliant isn’t it? It’s made me so cross! I hate Miles!” said a third.
Playing Nice is available to watch on ITVX.
