Top 10 most punted on sporting events in 2024 revealed as Euros dominate but another sport is runaway leader
EURO 2024 dominated the top 10 most punted on sporting events last year with betting giants Entain.
The company – which owns several well-known betting firms including Ladbrokes, Coral and Sportingbet – used their global sportsbook to reveal SIX of the top 10 were games at the Euros.
Of the top 50 events punted on with the firm, football matches appeared 34 times.
But despite England reaching the final of the Euros, the competition – and indeed football – was NOT number one on the list.
The runaway leader from the front was the Grand National at Aintree, while February’s Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers came second.
England’s defeat to Spain in Euro 2024 was the most punted on football event of the year, with the semi final win over Netherlands coming in fourth.
Dortmund vs Real Madrid in the Champions League final rounded off the top five.
The Masters at Augusta was sixth, with four more matches from the competition in Germany finishing off the top 10.
Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul was only ranked in 36th, behind two other non-football events in the Cheltenham Gold Cup (16th) and Scottish Grand National from Ayr (34th).
Entain’s managing director of sport, Greg Ferris said: “Watched by hundreds of millions of people worldwide, the Grand National’s popularity and ability to capture the attention of casual bettors remains undisputed, according to our global sportsbook.
“It was the Euros that really captured the imagination of viewers this year though, with England games still proving a huge draw for recreational betting.”
