Austin FC makes big splash in adding to roster
AUSTIN (KXAN) - After a disappointing 2024 campaign, Austin FC won't look the same in 2025. Management decided changes needed to be made to the staff and roster.
Josh Wolff, the first manager in club history, is out and Nico Estévez is in. The Verde and Black announced a major addition to the roster Monday.
The club announced the acquisition of Brandon Vazquez who will occupy a Designated Player slot. Vazquez joins Austin FC via CF Monterrey of Liga MX.
The 26-year-old forward spent the first seven years of his career in the MLS where he played for both Atlanta United and FC Cincinnati.
Vazquez is a standout on the national stage as well, having scored four goals in eleven matches for the U.S. Men's National Team.
In his lone year in Liga MX, the newest member of Austin FC scored 14 goals.
In a statement released by the team, Austin FC Sporting Director Rodolfo Borrell said, "Brandon has already proven to be a goalscorer in both MLS & Liga MX. His well-known daily dedication to get prepared for games, his passion for the game, and his determination when he competes were key factors when deciding on bringing him to Austin FC.”
The deal is for four years with an option for 2029. Austin opens the 2025 season on February 22 at Q2 Stadium against Sporting Kansas City.
