Bronx all-senior NYCHA building has inconsistent heat
THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Some older residents in the Bronx say they would rather sleep outside than inside their NYCHA building.
Some residents are cold in their homes again this winter due to inconsistent heat. A community leader is calling it a public health emergency.
It’s been years of frozen misery. PIX11's Monica Morales has fought for the seniors who live at the Twin Parks East in the Bronx, including in winter 2021, 2022, and now 2025.
Queen Mcfarlane, the tenant president of the Twin Parks East, has PIX11 News on her speed dial.
To be fair, over the years, NYCHA has made improvements like installing new windows. In 2022, New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams stepped in. But lately, the only heat Mcfarlane is feeling is from her neighbors to fix the problem.
A NYCHA spokesperson told PIX11 News: "NYCHA heating staff were dispatched to Twin Parks East and have confirmed there is currently no interruption in heat service. We will work with the residents to address any concerns. Residents in need of assistance are encouraged to call the Customer Contact Center at 718-707-7771 or submit work tickets through the MyNYCHA application."
