New Johnstown police search tied to Kellisue Ackernecht cold case
JOHNSTOWN, N.Y. (NEWS10) — In the frigid cold Monday, investigators searched a home on West Main and School Streets for new leads in the cold case of Kellisue Ackernecht. The Johnstown mother disappeared after clocking out from her shift at an Amsterdam Rite Aid in September 2008.
The Johnstown Police Chief David Gilbo told NEWS10's Zion Decoteau that nothing new turned up in Monday's search. He says local police utilized canine units as well as assistance from the New York State Police.
Investigators say they combed through the shared basement area of the houses surrounding 310 West Main Street. While police did not search any specific apartment, we're told they were searching the basement because the property was tied to an associate of Ackernecht who no longer lives there. Police say a tip led them to search the home on Monday. Chief Gilbo would not specify who or what exactly police are searching for.
"The whole appointment, as far as what he had with the victim who is missing, is basically what's holding everything else up. When we get the truthful answers as to what is going on between the two, if anything did at one point ,we're going to keep investigating till we get there" said Gilbo.
Kellisue Ackernecht’s daughter Ashley however, said the person of interest is most likely an old boyfriend of her mother's.
“I will continue my search. I will continue posting on social media. I will continue searching for those answers and hoping that one day somebody has the heart to come forward because there's somebody out there with an answer” said Ashley.
Police Chief Gilbo told NEWS10 the case would have been further a long today because of more advanced technology compared to 2008.
This investigation is ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to call Johnstown Police at 518-736-4021.
