Rensselaer County swears in five new correctional officers
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office has hired five new corrections officers. They were sworn in on Monday.
The sheriff has prioritized staffing during his first year in office. He said the demands of the job can make it tough to find new recruits.
"These five will be working long hours, nights, weekends, holidays, 16-hour days in some cases," Sheriff Kyle Bourgault said. "Although we are working on staffing, the reality is, these five positions are very important right now."
The sheriff's office said they have a recruiter, who is working to increase staffing numbers.
