Lack of help forces Topeka warming center to close
TOPEKA (KSNT) – A local warming center has shut down Monday due to a lack of volunteers in Topeka.
Patrick Yancey, executive director of Let's Help, Inc., reported that his organization's warming center closed at 5 p.m. on Jan. 6. Let's Help was one of several local organizations that announced it would be opening warming centers to help locals who don't have shelter of their own.
Yancey attributed the closure to a limited number of volunteers to keep the center open.
"We had absolutely amazing volunteers, we just could never get enough of them to achieve critical mass for effective service delivery," Yancey said. "We deeply appreciate our community partners for all that they do and we are here to assist in anyway that we can. Everyone please take care and God bless."
The Topeka Rescue Mission opened several warming centers for the blizzard that hit over the weekend. You can find a list of these warming centers by clicking here.
