Bad Bunny Makes a Homecoming of His New Album
Say cheese — Bad Bunny’s new album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos, is here. For his sixth album, Benito was inspired by his home of Puerto Rico, putting traditional rhythms like plena next to classic reggaeton beats. He recorded the album in Puerto Rico, using live instruments including rich horns and percussion. He even collaborated with young salsa students on some songs, along with bigger names from the island like the singer RaiNao and the band Chuwi. Debí Tirar Más Fotos (which translates to “I Should Have Taken More Photos”) builds on Bad Bunny’s recent interest in traditional Latin music, after he brought Puerto Rican singer José Feliciano out during his 2023 Coachella set and collaborated with the música Mexicana band Grupo Frontera on their hit “un x100to.” “Sometimes young people can think, and I used to think this when I was a kid, this type of music is for old people, that’s my abuelita’s or my grandpa’s music,” he told the New York Times. “But when you grow up, you start to appreciate it and understand it more.”
The album arrived on a Sunday morning, on January 5, rather than the usual midnight Friday release. He didn’t explain the strategy, but it’s just the latest in a schedule-bucking trend, after Tyler, the Creator dropped Chromakopia on a Monday and both Kendrick Lamar and SZA dropped recent albums at midday on Fridays. The drawback behind that Sunday release, though, is missing days of chart tracking (which begins each Friday). Will we see a photo finish between Bad Bunny, Lil Baby, and SZA?
