2025 MPSE Golden Reel Awards nominations led by ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ ‘Dune: Part Two’
The Motion Picture Sound Editors have added their voices to the awards season conversation.
On Monday, the sound-editing professionals announced nominees for the MPSE Golden Reel Awards, with top Best Sound Oscar contenders A Complete Unknown, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, and Wicked among the films recognized.
Deadpool & Wolverine and Dune: Part Two led the way among features with three nominations, including sound editing for dialogue, sound editing for effects, and music editing. Other movies with multiple citations included A Complete Unknown, Emilia Pérez, and Wicked.
All of those films made the Oscars shortlist for Best Sound. A notable absence among the MPSE Golden Reel nominees is Gladiator II, which is currently predicted to land among the Best Sound Oscar nominees later this month. Last year, three of the five Best Sound Oscar nominees were similarly nominated by the Golden Reel Awards. (Gladiator II, it should be noted, made the BAFTA Awards longlist for Best Sound last week; Deadpool & Wolverine, in comparison, did not.)
Television shows nominated by the MPSE Golden Reel Awards include Shōgun, The Penguin, and Baby Reindeer.
Read on for the full list of nominees. The group previously announced two honorary awards for 2025: Kevin Costner will receive the Filmmaker Award and supervising sound editor Greg Hedgepath will receive the Career Achievement Award.
The 2025 MPSE Golden Reel Awards winners will be revealed at a ceremony in Los Angeles on Feb. 23.
