How many inches of snow will New York City get?
NEW YORK (PIX11) – A snowstorm is headed to New York City and the tri-state area on Monday morning.
Snow was expected to fall in central and southern New Jersey around 7 a.m. before making its way to the Big Apple by 10 a.m., according to PIX11 meteorologists.
The snow should stop falling in the afternoon, although some areas of New Jersey may continue to see flakes later on.
Central and southern New Jersey could get several inches of snow, but New York City, the Hudson Valley and Long Island will see less than an inch to no accumulation at all, PIX11 meteorologists said.
A winter weather alert was issued in New York City for Monday's snowfall. The Department of Sanitation has pretreated the roads with liquid brine, but NYC Emergency Management Commissioner Zach Iscol warned drivers of a potentially messy evening commute.
After the snow moves out of the tri-state area, freezing temperatures and blustery winds are expected for the rest of the week. Some gusts could reach between 30-40 mph.
