Ready for sunshine in Oregon? Here it comes
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — We saw a soaker of a day on Saturday from the Oregon coast to the Willamette Valley with widespread rain and even heavy downpours at times. Tillamook was the big winner, tallying over an inch-and-a-half of rain. Portland reached .60 of an inch, while Vancouver and McMinnville each saw more than a half-inch.
Sunday night brought in another system with periods of rain, but overall our conditions around the metro area have been pretty mild for early January.
Not only did we see plenty of rain throughout the coast and valley this past weekend, but there was also plenty of mountain snow. Mt. Hood Meadows from 5 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday saw three new inches of snow, while Timberline had seven inches of snow in that 24-hour period.
But now, big changes are on the way!
As we kick off our new week, a ridge of high pressure will be building and will be persistent for much of the week. Thus, mostly dry conditions will be here Monday and will stick around through Thursday.
Monday looks to start out cloudy and even some along the coast and valley could see some patchy fog. But then by the afternoon hours, the PNW will look to see mostly sunny skies with daytime highs getting back into the low to mid 50s once again across the northern Willamette Valley.
Tuesday, the sunshine sticks around but easterly winds are expected to pick up. So expect some breezy conditions with daytime highs only looking to reach the mid to upper 40s around PDX Tuesday.
This week's overnight lows in Portland are very consistent, hanging out in the upper-30s.
