On a roll: SJ Belangel sets new KBL career-high 36 points, 8 assists in Daegu win
MANILA, Philippines – SJ Belangel continued to put on a show for the Daegu KOGAS Pegasus in the 2024-2025 Korean Basketball League (KBL) season.
On Saturday, January 4, Belangel went off for a career-high 36 points in the Daegu KOGAS Pegasus’ 114-77 rout of the Seoul Samsung Thunders.
Belangel waxed hot from beyond the arc, knocking down 6 of his 10 three-point attempts, while also shooting a near-perfect 6-of-7 clip from both the two-point area and the free throw stripe en route to the 36-point explosion.
Aside from his career-high in points and field goals made (12) in a single game, Belangel also dished out a career-best 8 assists, to go with 3 rebounds and 3 steals in over 29 minutes of action.
Belangel quickly followed up his career-game with an 11-point and 7-assist performance on Sunday, January 5 as Daegu picked up its second straight win, this time against the Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters, 84-77.
In 25 games played so far in his third year in the KBL, the former Gilas Pilipinas and Ateneo star point guard Belangel has been averaging career-highs of 14.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 1.6 steals.
Thanks to his stellar play, the Pegasus currently rank third in the league with a 15-10 record.
The 25-year-old Belangel is set to play in the KBL All-Star Game for the first time on January 19, together with his fellow Filipino Asian Quota import and the league’s reigning domestic MVP Ethan Alvano. –Rappler.com
