According to cars.com, motorists should keep an eye out and check their drain holes as water can get past window seals inside the doors when it rains.
Even washing your car can have a similar effect with gravel and dirt often getting into the bottom of the doors which cause prevent water from draining and cause rust.
They also advise that drivers who are worried can ask their professional car wash to check the drain holes as this is not an automatic service.
