Pursuit leads to 2 arrests in shooting of 2 women in Beach Park
A man and a juvenile were arrested after police attempted to stop them three times in connection with the shooting of two women in Beach Park early Sunday morning, according to the Lake County Sheriffs Office.
About 2 a.m. Lake County sheriff’s deputies found a vehicle with “extensive damage” and two women who had been shot, police said. One woman was shot in the eye and the other was shot in the leg; both were taken to nearby hospitals and are expected to survive.
The two women had been at a bar in North Chicago, and while driving home, a gray Dodge Charger Hellcat pulled alongside them and shots were fired, police said. Officers tried to pull over the Charger twice but each time it sped away.
Shortly after, a Lake County deputy began chasing the vehicle, which later crashed near Route 173 and Joana Avenue in Zion after a Zion officer deployed a tire deflating device, police said. Sheriffs — along with drones, police canines and Waukegan and Zion officers — then searched for the occupants who fled the scene of the crash.
A man and juvenile were arrested, and a rifle and pistol were found in the car, police said. Another pistol was found in a yard near where one of the two was arrested.
An investigation is ongoing.
