Hot cocoa stand gives back to the community for 19 years
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (PIX11) -- One donation at a time is how Evan and Joshua have been fundraising money through their hot cocoa stand. They started 19 years ago at the ages of 3 and 5 when they decided they wanted to help people in need.
“We enjoyed giving back to our community so much, next year we decided to continue it and raise money for the pediatric cancer foundation,” said Evan Greenberg, co-founder of Evan & Joshua’s hot cocoa stand.
Ever since, Evan and Joshua’s hot cocoa stand has been making waves in Westchester County by raising money for kids fighting the disease according to the Pediatric Cancer Foundation over the years the funds raised have supported eleven hospitals focused on fighting childhood cancer. “We support a lot of clinical trials, from bedside to the actual research” adds Nancy Joselson, Director of the Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
“We’ve gone from elementary school to now he is graduating law school I’m graduating college,” said Joshua Greenberg, co-founder of Evan & Joshua’s hot cocoa stand.
Through time, they have secured many ways to get the money. This year, aside from the hot cocoa and baked goods; they created two different raffles focused on sports with a variety of prizes from local New York teams.
Ramsey Brown, a relative and volunteer for the charity event, spoke on the work his cousins have done, saying, “It’s a great role modeling experience for me and ever since I was young, I’ve known that our family gives back to the community.”
Close friends have also partaken in this important cause. Elisa & Ken Greenberg, the proud parents who supported Evan and Joshua’s commitment to charity, today stand tall by them. “I think it’s about the community, it’s the community of people who are helping and it’s the community of people who are helping us.”
Through the COVID-19 pandemic & snowstorms, the brothers found ways to continue their charity work raising a total of 90 thousand dollars. “We are going to do it next year and see where it takes us,” says Evan Greenberg. “We are almost at the 100k mark we hope to pass it this year.”
