Brandon Austin reacts to his Man of the Match Tottenham debut
Brandon Austin had a bittersweet experience on Saturday as he made a long-awaited debut for Tottenham in their 2-1 defeat to Newcastle, and the goalkeeper has now taken to social media to react to the result.
Brandon Austin stands up for Tottenham at key moment
Spurs were in a precarious position heading into the game on Saturday as their number one, Guglielmo Vicario, is out with a long-term injury. His backup, Fraser Forster, was also ruled out as he caught the bug that is going around the squad.
That meant that Ange Postecoglou had to turn to Austin, whose last senior appearance came all the way back in 2021 when he was on loan at MLS side Orlando City.
However, one would not have guessed that by watching the 25-year-old on Saturday. He looked extremely assured, not only coming up with some important stops but also confidently claiming crosses and corner kicks.

In fact, the Tottenham academy graduate was even named the Man of the Match, which is a huge honour for someone on their debut, let alone a player who has had to be patient and bide his time for years.
The goalkeeper took to Instagram to admit that although the result was disappointing, he was extremely proud about getting the opportunity to wear the club’s colours and thanked the fans for their support.
Austin has proven that he is a useful third-choice
On the back of this performance, Austin has just sealed his place as Tottenham’s third-choice goalkeeper for many years to come, unless he asks to leave.
All top clubs need two decent goalkeepers and a serviceable third choice, as Spurs’ own injury crisis has proven. In Austin, the Lilywhites seem to have found a reliable club man, who can come in and do a job in case of an emergency.
