An interesting update has emerged regarding the future of Alejo Veliz, with one journalist claiming to have heard an interesting insight from the striker’s agent.
Will Alejo Veliz be recalled by Tottenham?
Veliz has endured a forgettable loan spell at Espanyol so far, having found the back of the net just once in 14 league outings and now struggling to get into the starting eleven.
It emerged last month that the 21-year-old would be more than happy to cut short his loan spell at the La Liga side prematurely in January.
Just a couple of days ago, some Spanish outlets suggested that Espanyol are also happy to send the striker back to Tottenham as they need to trim their wage bill in order to make new signings.
Alejo Veliz may remain with Espanyol after all
However, journalist Juan Asensio has now contradicted that information, insisting that Veliz is expected to remain with the Spanish side until the end of the season.
He revealed that Espanyol have not asked Spurs to cut short Veliz’s stay at the Stage Front Stadium.
Asensio added that he has also heard the same thing from the striker’s agent, who ‘assures’ that the Tottenham man will remain at the Catalan club until the summer.
Tottenham should recall Veliz if there is a break clause in the loan
It is not clear if a break clause has been inserted in the loan deal, but if there is one, one would expect Spurs to activate it.
Veliz has fallen down the pecking order of late and has not been getting minutes. Spurs will be considering sending him to another club for the second half of the campaign.
A loan move to the Championship might be the ideal solution to ensure that the centre-forward gets enough game time, and it would also have the added benefit of ensuring that he gets accustomed to the intensity and physicality of English football.
