Evidence collected over 18 months nets arrest in north Columbus shooting
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Evidence collected over nearly a year led police to arrest a shooting suspect from a northeast Columbus incident in June 2023.
According to court documents, Kevin Thomas faces four counts of felonious assault and a weapons charge in connection with a shooting in the 4600 block of Glen Grove Lane in the Forest Park East neighborhood.
Officers arrived at the Glenview Estates residence, where a woman said her apartment was shot up while she and her children were inside. Detectives recovered nine casings from the parking lot and received a tip that Thomas was at the residence to collect money.
Surveillance cameras captured a silver SUV quickly driving away after the shooting.
In January 2024, Thomas was pulled over while driving a silver 2015 GMC Terrain and police found a Glock 22 under the driver’s seat. Thomas told police that the gun belonged to “his girl,” and police confirmed the gun was purchased by the woman in April 2023.
The National Integrated Ballistic Information Network linked the casings from the Glen Grove Lane shooting to a Shot Spotter report on Oct. 4, 2023, when police received reports of a separate shooting. That shooting took place in a west Columbus neighborhood where there was an address with the Terrain registered in Thomas’ name.
A warrant was issued for Thomas’ arrest in May 2024, and he was eventually arrested on Thursday, nearly 19 months after the initial incident.
Thomas was issued a $1 million bond Thursday in Franklin County Municipal Court.
