Tottenham looked at Bayern Munich star before signing Antonin Kinsky
Tottenham have started the transfer window by promptly securing the signature of Antonin Kinsky. However, the 21-year-old was not the only name considered by the club.
Antonin Kinsky arrives at Tottenham
Fraser Forster likely did not expect to effectively become Tottenham’s first-choice goalkeeper. However, the injury to Guglielmo Vicario thrust Forster into the starting line-up and he has put in some admirable performances since – as well as a couple of nervy ones.
If Tottenham were not additionally missing their starting centre-backs, Forster’s goal-keeping efforts may have reaped greater rewards over the last month of fixtures.
However, Forster’s lack of security playing out from the back was always a concern and after catching a sickness bug caused him to miss the game against Newcastle, goalkeeping reinforcements became a necessity.
Tottenham have confirmed the signing of 21-year-old goalkeeper, Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague. Acting swiftly in the transfer window could help Ange Postecoglou turn the tide in the important games ahead.
Tottenham had other targets, but deals could not come to fruition
Miguel Delaney confirmed in The Independent that Spurs had sealed the services of Antonin Kinsky. It has now been revealed that there were other names on the clubs’ list of goalkeeper targets.
Namely, Daniel Peretz of Bayern Munich. Peretz is usually Bayern’s rotation goalkeeper, however, starting goalkeeper Manual Neuer picked up an injury just over a week after Guglielmo Vicario fractured his ankle against Manchester City.
Neuer unfortunately broke a rib in a collision with Jeremie Frimpong in Bayern’s Bundesliga-title-clash with Bayer Leverkusen. The Bayern goalkeeper faced double jeopardy as he was sent off for his challenge and received a broken rib for his efforts.
Peretz has started every game since and this development stalled any Tottenham movement for the keeper in the short-term.
Spurs cannot afford to dwell over unavailable targets
While there may have been a circumstance where Manuel Neuer recovered and Peretz became available later in the January window, Tottenham could not afford hesitancy.
Spurs are about to delve into a run of fixtures where they are back to playing twice a week. Especially with Forster out with illness, they needed their signing in now. Waiting could have led to further stagnation in the team’s results and slipping further down the Premier League table.
Despite reports of which player a club’s priority may be, each side always makes a list of suitable candidates. Finding the best deal to fit the team’s needs from that list is how efficient clubs operate.
The fact that Spurs secured a deal for Kinsky within five days of the window opening is indicative of the work Johan Lange and co are putting in to develop and reform their scouting department.
