Man, 80, arrested on suspicion of murdering another pensioner inside flat
An 80-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering another pensioner at a block of flats in Aylesbury.
Police and paramedics were called to the property on Silverdale Close shortly before 4.30pm on Friday.
They found a man in his 70s with serious injuries. He was declared dead there a while later.
Detectives said the two men were known to each other.
Formal identification has yet to take place, but police said the victim’s next of kin has been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Nick Hind said: ‘Firstly, I would like to wish my condolences to the family of the man who sadly died following this incident.
‘We have launched a murder investigation and I recognise the concern this will cause in the local community. However, we have made an arrest and are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and two parties are known to each other.
‘Extensive enquiries are ongoing into this incident and a scene will remain on for some time while our investigation is ongoing, we would apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.
‘We are confident that there is no wider risk to the community at this time, and I would urge anybody who has any concerns to please speak to any of our officers at the scene.
‘We are carrying out a number of enquiries, but would ask if anyone believes they could have information that could assist our investigation to please get in touch.’
