Ulster County man arrested after crashing into state police car
LLOYD, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- New York State Police (NYSP) reported that an arrest was made following a crash in Lloyd on January 1. One of the involved drivers is facing multiple DWI-related charges.
On Wednesday around 2:52 a.m., troopers stopped a 2016 Volkswagen on State Route 44/55 in Lloyd for reportedly committing vehicle and traffic law violations. While the stop was underway, state police said that while traveling on the road in his 2025 Volkswagen, a 36-year-old man from Marlboro rear-ended the stopped NYSP car, causing the troop vehicle to collide with the 2016 Volkswagen.
After the crash, troopers interviewing the man detected a strong odor of alcohol, leading to him submitting to field sobriety tests, which he allegedly failed. The man was taken into custody at the scene.
The Marlboro man's breath sample reportedly yielded a blood alcohol content of 0.16%. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle with 0.08 of 1% alcohol or more in his blood.
State police stated that all emergency lights were activated on the troop car at the time of the crash. The occupants of the 2016 Volkswagen, a 27-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man, were treated for minor injuries at Dutchess Vassar Brothers Hospital. Two state troopers were also treated for minor injuries at Mid-Hudson Hospital.
The Marlboro man was issued traffic tickets and an appearance ticket scheduled for January 21 at the Lloyd Town Court.
