Top Senators on the Senate Armed Services Committee are quietly seeking more information on the debunked sex assault accusation against Pete Hegseth ahead of his confirmation hearing.
On Tuesday President Trump sounded the alarm on Senate Democrats’ plan to “improperly stall and delay the confirmation process” of many of his Cabinet nominees.
The Senate confirmation hearings are set to begin next week.
President Trump did not go into detail about the Democrats’ plan to delay and possibly derail his Cabinet nominees.
However, given what the Senate Democrats did to Bret Kavanaugh during his Supreme Court confirmation hearing in 2018, anything is possible.
“We just won a Historic Landslide and Mandate from the American People, but Senate Democrats are organizing to improperly stall and delay the confirmation process of many of our Great Nominees. They will try all sorts of tricks starting very soon. Republicans must not allow them to do that. We have a Country to run, and many big problems to solve, mostly created by Democrats. REPUBLICANS, BE SMART AND TOUGH!!!” Trump said in a post on X on Tuesday.
As previously reported, in 2017, Monterey, California, police investigated an allegation made by a married woman [Jane Doe] who claimed Pete Hegseth sexually assaulted her at a political event, but they found no evidence to support her claims.
Hegseth claimed the encounter was consensual.

Just as Trump warned, top Senators are now digging deeper into the debunked sex assault allegation ahead of Hegseth’s confirmation hearing.

Following reports of alleged impropriety by Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Department of Defense, the top Republican and Democrat on the Senate Armed Services Committee have quietly made a request for additional information from the veterans organization Hegseth once ran, as well as the district attorney in Monterey County, California, according to communications reviewed by ABC News.
The committee appears to be looking deeper into recently reported accusations of a 2017 sexual assault as well as allegations of financial misconduct on Hegseth’s part, both of which Hegseth has denied.
The committee’s requests, which were made in early December, ask that documents be provided to the Senate Armed Services Committee no later than Monday, Jan. 6, just over a week before Hegseth is scheduled to appear before the panel for his public confirmation hearing on Jan. 14.
The requests, reviewed by ABC News, show that the top Republican on the committee, Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., and the top Democrat, Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., sought additional information from the Monterey County district attorney concerning allegations of sexual assault that were levied against Hegseth in 2017 and first reported in November, following Trump’s announcement of Hegseth as his DOD pick.
Last month Pete Hegseth’s lawyer, Tim Parlatore, said he will file a lawsuit against Hegseth’s sexual assault accuser if his client is not confirmed by the senate to be President Trump’s Defense Secretary.
Mr. Parlatore told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins that he will sue Hegseth’s sexual assault accuser for violating her settlememt agreement if Hegseth is not confirmed by the senate.
“With the violation of the agreement, if he is not confirmed as secretary of defense, we may still bring a civil extortion claim against her,” Tim Parlatore said.
“You might take legal action if he’s not confirmed?” CNN’s Kaitlan Collins asked Tim Parlatore.
“Absolutely. If the false claims of somebody that was part of an extortion, that was then put out in violation of a settlement agreement, ultimately causes him to lose his future employment opportunities, then yes, that is something that is worth bringing a lawsuit for,” Tim Parlatore said.
