Mark Lawrenson predicts the score for Tottenham v Newcastle
Mark Lawrenson has made his prediction as Tottenham Hotspur face Newcastle United on Saturday and he believes just one goal will separate the sides.
Tottenham are back on a downward spiral
A few weeks ago there was a sense of renewed hope around Tottenham. A run of only one win in eight matches in all competitions came to an end in style as Spurs battered Southampton 5-0.
The Lilywhites followed that up with another ferocious attacking display with a 4-3 win over Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.
However, Spurs have picked up just one point from their three Premier League since, conceding nine goals in the process. Injuries have also continued to plague the Tottenham first-team squad, with Destiny Udogie being the latest player forced off during a match.
Meanwhile, Tottenham’s upcoming opponents are in brilliant form. Since a 4-2 defeat to Brentford in early December, Newcastle have won five consecutive matches in all competitions. Their most recent win against Manchester United is the only one of these fixtures where they have failed to score at least three goals.
Mark Lawrenson predicts a Spurs defeat against Newcastle
Although Spurs have had some sporadic wins when they were the underdogs, such as their 4-0 thrashing of Manchester City, Mark Lawrenson expects them to lose to Newcastle.
Speaking on his Paddy Power predictions, he thinks Newcastle will be too strong and has revealed he has concerns over Tottenham’s home form.
He said: “Newcastle are flying. They could have, and should have, beaten Manchester United by many more than the 2-0 final score.
“Tottenham used to be good at home but they’re all over the place and I fancy Newcastle to win which will just put more pressure on Ange Postecoglou.
“Newcastle’s three in midfield are so good and they’re a very, very difficult team to beat now.”

Spurs have struggled at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
It is not surprising Lawrenson has chosen to focus on Tottenham’s home form. They have just 14 points from 10 league matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and have lost as many games as they have won.
Tottenham’s recent form is a key contributor to this poor points tally, as they have failed to win at home in their past five league matches, while Newcastle have scored six goals and kept clean sheets in their previous two away games.
As things stand, it would be very surprising if Spurs are able to pick up three points when they take on Newcastle this Saturday.
