‘Magic button’ on car’s dashboard will defrost your windscreen in SECONDS and keep you warm on frosty early mornings
DRIVERS can use a “magic” dashboard button to defrost their windscreens in seconds, a motoring expert has revealed.
The handy trick will also keep your car warm after your view has been cleared.
The Met Office is forecasting a week-long freeze across parts of the UK, with lows of -8C plunging Brits into the frost.
A number of weather warnings cover most of the country, including two amber warnings for snow and ice.
NHS chiefs have also issued a series of amber alerts throughout England, with some regions urging people not to go out early in the morning or late at night and to stock up on food.
Ideally, in such treacherous conditions, driving should be kept to a minimum.
But if you have to set out on the road, you’ll likely be confronted with an iced-up windscreen when you get up in the morning.
Not only is this irritating, it can also be dangerous while failing to fully clear the glass can see you landed with a £2,500 fine.
Fortunately, instructors at Driving Test Success have taken to TikTok to share some top tips for dealing with the problem.
They explained: “Frozen windscreen?
“Put the temperature on high.
“Put the front windscreen fan on max.
“The ice will start to melt from the heat.
“Wipe away excess water and return the fan to normal.”
One viewer who tried out the trick said: “Wow, magic.
“The ice is gone.”
You can direct the fan at the windscreen using a dashboard button found on most modern motors.
The switch is usually marked with a windscreen symbol with three wavy arrows through it, with another often provided for the rear windscreen.
However, the engine does need to be on for this to work so make sure to stay without your vehicle while the ice is melting.
Also, try and avoid using the tip when stopped on a public road as you could find yourself getting an £80 fine for idling.
