Cybertruck bomber’s haunting last texts to ex before blast outside Trump’s hotel
The last texts sent by a soldier who blew himself up in a Tesla Cybertruck outside Donald Trump’s Las Vegas hotel revealed he ‘felt like Batman’.
Matthew Livelsberger, 37, was found with a handgun at his feet and a gunshot wound that appeared to be self-inflicted inside the car after the explosion on New Year’s Day.
He was the only death in the incident, which sparked an investigation looking into if it was linked to the New Orleans attack hours earlier.
It has now been revealed, in the days before his death, Livelsberger had been texting former girlfriends, according to the FBI.
Livelsberger had also split up with his wife just days before the explosion.
Alicia Arritt, who dated Livelsberger between 2018 and 2021, shared screenshots of the last texts he sent to her with the Denver Gazette.
One read: ‘I rented a Tesla Cybertruck. It’s the s**t’ and a few minutes later, he wrote: ‘I feel like Batman or halo.’
She said: ‘How fast is it?’ and he responded: ‘Ungodly.’
Ms Arritt says she’s struggling to come to terms with what happened and why her ex reached out.
‘I just want everyone to know that Matt was the kindest man I ever knew,’ she said.
As well as a handgun found in Livelsberger’s car, detectives also found another firearm, multiple fireworks, a military ID, an iPhone, a smartwatch, a passport and credit cards. Both guns were bought legally.
Car charging station photos showed that Livelsberger was driving the Cybertruck and was alone.
Livelsberger joined the US Army in 2006 and was serving in the highly trained special forces to fight foreign terrorism.
He had received five Bronze Stars and was on approved leave at the time of the explosion in Las Vegas.
FBI Deputy Assistant Director Chris Raia said that there has been ‘no definitive link’ found between the Cybertruck explosion and an attack hours earlier on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.
This separate attack involved a truck driver who rammed into and killed 14 people celebrating the New Year.
