Troy making progress in revitalizing vacant properties
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Troy Community Land Bank (TCLB) announced the completion of multiple roofing projects throughout Troy. The revitalization efforts are part of the non-profit organization's goal to renovate vacant properties into valuable assets for the city.
The buildings included 17 Park Avenue, 32 Glen Avenue, and 785 River Street, with additional projects in the works over the coming months. The renovation at 17 Park Avenue included the removal of a red "X" sign on the building, which signified that the property was unsafe for firefighters to enter.
"With the new roof in place, we’ve removed the ‘X,’ signaling that this building—and
others like it—are on the path to restoration and investment," said Troy Community Land Bank Executive Director Brad Lewis. "This is a key part of our broader strategy to rebuild Troy’s infrastructure and turn vacant buildings into assets for the community."
TCLB has listed 17 Park Avenue for sale as they continue to search for a developer to fully restore the building. The organization stated they will continue to work closely with the Troy Fire Department to ensure that all properties being remodeled meet city safety standards.
Mayor Carmella Mantello, City Council President Sue Steele, Deputy Fire Chief Jared Barringer and other Troy firefighters joined TCLB officials at the property to celebrate the removal of the red "X" sign.
