Novato police arrest teens in armed robbery investigation
Police have arrested a pair of teens in connection with an armed robbery that prompted a lockdown at Novato High School.
The robbery happened on Dec. 19 near the corner of Arthur and Hayes streets. Police said several youths, including one who displayed a handgun, robbed the victim and escaped. Authorities closed the school for about two hours during the investigation.
On Sunday, a 14-year-old was shot at a residence in an incident of “unsafe firearms handling,” Novato police Capt. Sasha D’Amico said. The shooter was gone before police arrived. The gunshot victim was treated at a hospital.
Detectives linked the gun to the Dec. 19 robbery and found the alleged shooter, 16, at his Novato home on Monday. They arrested him on suspicion of robbery, conspiracy, brandishing a firearm, child abuse and possessing a firearm as a minor.
Police also arrested another 16-year-old on suspicion of conspiring in the robbery near the school.
Both suspects were booked into Marin County Juvenile Hall. Police did not release their names because they are under 18 years old.
