Boy, 17, arrested after two teens killed in crash and four other people injured
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after two teenagers died in a New Year’s Day crash.
New Year’s celebrations came to a tragic end in Hull, East Yorkshire, after two cars crashed head-on.
The smash happened as a grey VW Golf and a black Vauxhall Grandland were travelling in opposite directions on Staithes Road, Preston, Hull, at about 1.20am yesterday.
Despite the best efforts of the emergency crews, a 16-year-old boy died at the scene.
An 18-year-old man was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries later.
Two other passengers, a 16-year-old girl and a boy aged 17, also suffered injuries and were taken to hospital.
The girl remains in a critical but stable condition, while the boy’s health is described as serious but stable.
The driver of the Vauxhall, a 34-year-old woman, was left with a badly injured arm and she was also taken to hospital.
A 62-year-old man travelling in the Vauxhall with her was transported to hospital too for injuries which are no longer life-threatening, police said.
Two other passengers suffered minor injuries in the serious collision.
Now the driver of the Volkswagen, a 17-year-old boy, has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving.
He was released on bail while an investigation continues.
The families who lost loved ones continue to be supported by specially trained officers ‘at this extremely difficult time,’ Humberside Police said as the force appealed for any dashcam footage from the time of the crash.
