Woman killed in Evangeline Thruway bicycle crash
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- A woman was killed while riding a bicycle in Lafayette this morning, authorities said.
Police identified the victim as Cierra Robertson, 20 of Lafayette.
Lafayette Police responded to a report of a fatal vehicle crash around 8:19 a.m. at the intersection of SE Evangeline Thruway and Bellot Street.
Investigators said a F-450 was traveling southbound in the middle lane of NW Evangeline Thruway, while the bicyclist was riding on the sidewalk next to the inside lane.
For unknown reasons, the bicyclist turned right into the roadway, colliding with the driver's side of the truck, officials said. Robertson was run over by the driver's side tires and pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver voluntarily provided a breath sample, which registered 0.00g% BAC. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
All southbound lanes of Evangeline Thruway were closed between Willow Street and Goldman Street for about an hour.
The investigation is ongoing, authorities said.
