Tolls increase on NJ Turnpike, Garden State Parkway: How much more
NEW JERSEY (PIX11) – A toll increase went into effect on Wednesday for the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway.
A 3% increase in the cost of tolls on the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway went into effect at the start of the new year.
The average toll on the New Jersey Turnpike increased by 16 cents, according to a New Jersey Turnpike Authority spokesperson.
Commuters who use the New Jersey Turnpike to travel back and forth from work 250 days of the year will pay an extra 32 cents a day, which amounts to an additional $80 for the year.
The toll at most Garden State Parkway barrier plazas increased by 8 cents. The toll at most of the tolled entrance and exit ramps on the Garden State Parkway increased by 3 cents, according to the New Jersey Turnpike Authority spokesperson.
The toll increase came just days before the planned start of congestion pricing in New York City on Sunday.
Under the congestion pricing plan, cars entering New York City’s central business district below 60th Street in Manhattan will be charged a $9 toll once per day.
Meanwhile, New Jersey lawmakers vowed to continue fighting against congestion pricing during a press conference on Thursday.
