Man, 20, accused of breaking into mayor’s home: Sources
UPPER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (PIX11) – A 20-year-old man allegedly broke into Gracie Mansion early Wednesday morning and took a Christmas ornament, according to a criminal complaint.
Security noticed the intruder hopping a fence around 4:24 a.m. at the mayor’s residence on East End Avenue, sources told PIX11 News.
Michael Aromando, 20, of the Upper East Side, allegedly made it to the home’s second floor before he was arrested, sources said. He pleaded not guilty to the charges on Thursday, court records show.
A representative of the Mayor's office said the mayor was not home at the time of the break-in.
The break-in was caught on surveillance camera, according to a criminal complaint. Aromando allegedly showed investigators a video of him taking a Christmas ornament from the home, the criminal complaint details.
Aromando also took several other items, according to the criminal complaint.
The 20-year-old is due back in court on Monday, court records show. A family member of Aromando declined to comment on the allegations.
