New Orleans Terror Attack Suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar Planned to Kill Family, Authorities Reveal
In a tragic event on New Year’s Day, 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar executed a terror attack in New Orleans’ French Quarter, resulting in 15 deaths and injuring over 30 individuals.
Jabbar, a U.S. Army veteran from Texas, drove a pickup truck adorned with an ISIS flag into a crowd on Bourbon Street before engaging in a fatal shootout with police.
Investigations have uncovered that Jabbar had previously expressed intentions to harm his own family. In a series of disturbing videos, he discussed plans to gather his family under the guise of a celebration and then kill them.
The FBI reports that Shamsud-Din Jabbar had initially considered killing his family but ultimately decided against it, fearing it would divert media attention from what he described as the “war between believers and disbelievers.”
He also mentioned experiencing dreams that he interpreted as directives to join ISIS.

In videos seen by authorities, Jabbar allegedly discussed how he had planned to gather his family for a “celebration” with the intention of killing them after his divorce, before changing his plans to join ISIS, CNN reported, citing two officials who had been briefed on the recordings.
Jabbar also referenced several dreams that he had about why he should be joining ISIS, according to CNN.
Authorities believe Jabbar made the recordings at night while he was driving from his home in Texas to Louisiana. However, the exact timing is unclear.

Court filings, which Newsweek has not reviewed, show Jabbar has divorced from two of his ex-wives. In 2012, his first wife filed a lawsuit against him for child support shortly after he initiated divorce proceedings. The court mandated Jabbar to make payments that increased over time in line with his growing income. The case was ultimately dismissed in 2022.
Meanwhile, Jabbar’s second wife took out a restraining order against him in 2020 during divorce proceedings. The order mandated that Jabbar refrain from threats, physical harm or other stipulated behavior against his ex-wife and either of their children, and required her to avoid the same activity. In a court filing, Jabbar’s ex-wife stated the marriage had become “insupportable because of discord or a conflict of personalities.”
The 42-year-old pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft of between $50 and $500 in December 2002, Harris County court records show. He served nine months of “community supervision.” Three years later, in 2005, Beaumont police arrested him for driving with an invalid license, also a misdemeanor.

The Gateway Pundit previously reported that Jabbar converted to Islam before spiraling into erratic behavior, according to family members who spoke with the far-left New York Times.
Dwayne Marsh, married to Jabbar’s ex-wife, noted the suspect’s increasingly bizarre actions, including cutting his hair drastically and displaying erratic behavior that prompted them to restrict his access to his daughters.
Jabbar had moved into a predominantly Muslim neighborhood north of Houston approximately a year ago.
Following the New Orleans attack, FBI investigators descended on the area, including the local mosque, Masjid Bilal ISGH.
Meanwhile, Masjid Bilal ISGH issued a statement to its members that many have criticized as an attempt to obstruct justice.
In a Facebook post, Masjid Bilal ISGH’s leadership instructed its members to avoid speaking to the media and, if approached by the FBI, to refer inquiries to CAIR or ISGH.
