Earthquake shakes upstate New York on New Year's Day: USGS
NEW YORK (PIX11) – A 2.4-magnitude earthquake rocked upstate New York on New Year's Day, according to the United States Geological Survey.
It struck near the Canadian border less than four miles outside Fort Covington around 12:57 a.m., the USGS said. Just about 15 people reported light shaking in the area.
Fort Covington is around 400 miles away from New York City.
A 4.8-magnitude earthquake previously shook the tri-state area last April. At least 42 million people felt shaking, according to the USGS.
