1. Islamic State-inspired driver expressed desire to kill before deadly New Orleans rampage, Biden says
A U.S. Army veteran driving a pickup truck that bore the flag of the Islamic State group wrought carnage on New Orleans’ raucous New Year’s celebration, killing 15 people as he steered around a police blockade and slammed into revelers before being shot dead by police.
2. Crews battle Maxon Road Extension fire in Schenectady
A fire took place Wednesday night on Maxon Road Extension in the city of Schenectady. It was between Alexander and Hudson Streets.
3. 30-foot sailboat sinks in the Hudson River
A 30-foot sailboat sank in the Hudson River on Monday, per the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). It happened near the Henry Hudson Boat Launch in Bethlehem.
4. New NYS laws in the workplace in 2025
From an increase in benefits to more protections against discrimination in the workplace, the year 2025 will bring some changes for employees in New York State.
5. First Capital Region baby of 2025 born at St. Peter’s Hospital
St. Peter’s Hospital welcomed the first Capital Region baby of 2025. Baby Liam was born 20 seconds after midnight.
