10 people shot outside New York City nightclub on New Year's Day: NYPD
QUEENS, N.Y. (WPIX) – At least 10 people were shot outside a Queens nightclub on New Year's Day, according to the New York City Police Department.
The shooting happened around 11:20 p.m. at Amazura, located on 144th Place in Jamaica, Queens, police said. Detectives told Nexstar's WPIX that a private event was being held in an upstairs area of the club, which was at capacity with 90 people.
Another 15 people were waiting in line outside when three or four men walked toward the club and fired more than 30 times, injuring 10 people, police said.
All of the victims are under 20 years old, according to authorities. A 16-year-old boy was said to be among those who were shot.
Six females and four males were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera said.
A massive police presence and several ambulances could be seen outside Amazura in footage posted on social media.
The motive was not immediately known. Rivera said, however, that this incident "is not terrorism."
Police are searching for a gray Infiniti with New Jersey license plates in connection to the shooting, sources told WPIX.
