PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland area hospitals are ringing in the New Year with the first babies born within their walls in 2025.
At the Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, parents Julia Velasco and Santos Sucuc brought the hospital's first baby of 2025 into the world, Sergio Sucuc-Velasco, a boy born at 1:44 a.m.
Meanwhile, at Providence Portland Medical Center, parents Sugeyli Perez Silva and Cesar Garcia welcomed their baby boy, Ryan Garcia, at 12:54 a.m.
Kaiser Permanente Northwest's Sunnyside Medical Center welcomed a baby boy born at 12:13 a.m. The family is "doing well" but is asking for privacy, the hospital system said in a press release.
Kaiser Permanente said they were working on finding out more information about the first baby born at the Westside Medical Center, as well. It's still unclear whether the baby born at Sunnyside is definitively the first one to be born in the Portland area overall this year.
