Here are the 10 games we’re most excited for in Q1 2025
MANILA, Philippines – Early 2024 was quite a doozy for gaming, with the likes of Helldivers 2, Rise of the Ronin, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, and of course, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth providing gamers a ton of reasons to never leave the house.
It felt like quite a shift from the tradition of reserving the biggest releases for the Christmas season.
This 2025, there are certainly enough games in the first quarter to say that it’s still going to be quite the busy period — although arguably, there’s nothing on the level of Rebirth’s hype last year.
Let’s check out the games we’re eyeing — before, of course, the gaming world is consumed by the juggernaut that is GTA VI, with currently a to-be-announced release date.
- The PC release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth – January 23
Surprise! The first big release of the year is still Rebirth. The former PS5-exclusive now comes to more gamers with its PC port coming on January 23.
The game promises improved visuals that will take advantage of hardware more powerful than the PS5’s, so the graphical differences between the two versions will be interesting to look at as well.
- The PC release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 – January 30
Rebirth will not be alone in the journey from PS5 to PC as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (2023) will also be swinging to the “master race” on January 30 — again with the promise of better visuals, and the ability to have mods.
- Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 – February 4
While games like Skyrim and The Witcher series offered medieval fantasy worlds with magic and dragons, the Kingdom Come series focused on a more authentic experience in medieval Europe.
The original, released in 2018, had a hard-to-learn combat system that emphasized authenticity. But that proved a little too hard on many gamers, who were required to really learn the system to succeed.
This time, the Warhorse development team is looking to make things more accessible, with what appears to be an easier fighting system, according to Gamespot — along with amazing visuals.
Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
- Sid Meier’s Civilization VII – February 11
February 11 is a date to mark for PC gamers as one of the best and longest-running strategy series releases its 7th iteration.
Its biggest change? As we wrote back when the game was first announced in August: “A first for the series, Civilization VII will let players choose a leader separately from a civilization. Historically, the games strictly tied a leader with a civilization. For example, if you choose India, your leader is automatically Mahatma Gandhi. Now, you will be able to assign Gandhi, if he is part of the leader roster for VII, to another country or civilization.”
Is that good? Bad? We’ll know in February.
Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
- Assassin’s Creed Shadows – February 14
The most controversial Assassin’s Creed in recent history finally gets some love with a Valentine’s Day release date.
Some gamers were miffed about the historical accuracy of a samurai with African lineage, and a female ninja.
When it releases, we’ll finally see just how well the game plays, despite its rough path to release.
Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
- Avowed – February 18
Avowed is the first game to be released by Obsidian Entertainment since they were acquired by Microsoft in 2018.
Obsidian has a long history of amazing RPGs including Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II and Neverwinter Nights 2 in the 2000s, and Pillars of Eternity and The Outer Worlds in the 2010s — which is to say, their next product, also an action RPG, is something to look out for.
Avowed takes place in the same universe as Pillars of Eternity, only this time it’s in lush, full 3D, as opposed to the latter’s isometric, CRPG (computer-RPG) style.
Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PC
- Monster Hunter Wilds – February 28
The massively popular Monster Hunter series returns with Monster Hunter Wilds, featuring new cooking mechanics, a new mount called a Seikret which can carry a weapon and track down monsters, and a new weather system, among other changes.
Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
- Two Point Museum – March 4
You’ve managed hospitals in, well, Two Point Hospital, and schools in Two Point Campus.
Now, you’ll get to test your management mettle in a museum setting in the funnest of ways with Two Point Museum, which we’re expecting to be equally silly and addictive as the other Two Point games.
Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
- Suikoden 1&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars – March 6
Two of the best RPGs of the original PlayStation (and some argue that Suikoden 2 is THE best) are coming to this generation of gamers via a remaster.
Expect improved visuals and sounds, as well as quality-of-life improvements that are being designed to make these two games that are more than 2 decades old infinitely more playable.
Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC
- Split Fiction – March 6
Hazelight Studios is known for their cooperative games that require two players to play, punctuated by 2021’s It Takes Two, which took home a Game of the Year award at both The Game Awards and D.I.C.E. that year.
Now, their next game is about to come out on March 6, which puts players in the shoes of either one of two authors, Zoe or Mio. The two become trapped in the fictional worlds they write — one on science fiction and another on fantasy — and they need to work together in order to escape the very dangers that they themselves wrote.
Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC
