2 killed, 5 wounded in shooting at New Year party in Kankakee
Two people were killed and five others wounded in a shooting early Wednesday at a New Year’s party in Kankakee.
Officers responded about 4 a.m. to a home in the 1800 block of Pierson Parkway, where they found four people with gunshot wounds who were taken to a nearby hospital, Kankakee police said. Three other people took themselves to a hospital.
Two men, Quaysean Isom, 22, of Kankakee, and TreVontae Ellis, 20, of Pembroke Township, were pronounced dead at a hospital, police said. The conditions and ages of the other victims — three females and two males — were not released.
Officers took one person into custody after they were found hiding near the home, police said. Two firearms and multiple shell casings were recovered at the scene.
Police said the shooting occurred during a large party at the home and that “many” people were running out of the home when officers arrived.
“This shooting and deaths is tragic and we pray for the victims and their families,” Kankakee Mayor Chris Curtis said in a statement. “I’m heartbroken over this for our community and the families. One loss of life is one too many.”
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Kankakee police at (815) 933-3324 or (815) 933-0426.
