FORECAST DISCUSSION:
Good Tuesday evening & Happy New Year's Eve!
Rain has returned with mild weather sticking around for the final day of the year! As this system makes its way through, there is still a little more wet weather to deal with. Afterwards, temperatures will feel like winter and then some for the start of the year.
A low pressure center will continue to work through the state for the rest of this evening. Light showers will remain for the evening, but we do start to dry out just in time for midnight tonight. Temperatures for the northern tier of the state will see cooler air already break in. That will support the transition for a wintry mix for the early part of tomorrow.
New Year's Day will be cloudy with the return of a few mixed showers by the afternoon. More importantly, it will be much colder. Temperatures will only be a couple of degrees above freezing by the evening.
Temperatures will continue to drop as we head into the weekend. Numbers will stay freezing and below with daytime highs in the 20s for Saturday and Sunday. A few snow showers will return Thursday night into Friday.
Our next best chance for snow showers will return for the beginning of next week. Temperatures will still be in the upper 20s, so that will keep the potential to see snow very strong. Another system will slide around the area, bring in our best chance of snow so far for next Monday.
