Teen council could be coming to New Iberia
IBERIA PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- Kayden Ned is a teenager looking to create a teen council to represent the youth of New Iberia and develop a better future for the city.
"I'm helping out with starting a thing called New Iberia Teen Council to help youth develop and have events going on in the community, decreasing violence in New Iberia, and just having youth do more things in the community and having experiences," he said.
Like every city council, the teen council is looking to have a representative of each district in New Iberia. The criteria will be that they must be a teenager and must live in the district they are looking to represent.
Ned said they want each representative to work with each district representative to come up with ideas to help teens.
Kids in New Iberia do not have a lot of activities for them to do according to Ned. He said this is the reason for issues with juvenile violence. He plans to change that with aspirations to bring a youth fair and other ideas to keep them entertained and away from a life of crime.
"They (teens) really don't have nothing to do. That's something they need to come up with. They have to be something in this community that we got to do events, all kind of stuff. We want to have it just that the violence got to stop and we're trying to get that to start with our council. And if we can create some more stuff then that would happen."
