Giants' future uncertain amid reports of Daboll's seat heating up
NEW YORK (PIX11)—The latest reports on the direction of the New York Giants should come as no surprise. They want to stay the course with General Manager Joe Schoen and Head Coach Brian Daboll.
The question is now, will they?
Last 40 games, they are 11-29 and 1.
Since Daboll took over play-calling duties, the offense has regressed. The Giants' stunning victory on Sunday was due to their playing so well; it was their most complete game in two years.
Daboll's seat is apparently hotter. Schoen's inexperience showed after his success in 2022, as he leaned into it instead of looking at it as a rebuild. Daniel Jones's contract was a failure. His first two drafts were not as impactful as initially hoped, but he rebounded with a good draft in 2024.
When reports surface that Schoen and Daboll are not a package deal, so there is a pathway where one stays and the other goes. Both have failed for different reasons. For Schoen, it may be a little bit of inexperience.
Daboll may lack leadership and be arrogant. The question for Giants ownership is whether they should get more time or whether you have seen enough to judge their performance as not good enough.
It has not worked; the results are the results. But are the vision and the process sound enough to where you think they will ultimately lead to wins? Is this a roster problem or a coaching problem? Why did it look so bad all season and so good on Sunday?
There are so many questions surrounding a Giants franchise that is once again looking for answers.
Until next time, New York, I'm Marc Malusis.
