Baldwin Park man charged with killing 3 relatives, including 2 children, at their home
A 23-year-old man was charged with the murders of three relatives — a 44-year-old woman, her 16-year-old son and her 8-year-old daughter — who were found stabbed to death at their Baldwin Park home a day after Christmas, authorities said on Tuesday, Dec. 31.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office also charged Kyle Chester De Los Reyes with the special-circumstance allegation of committing multiple murders and the special allegation that he personally used a deadly or dangerous weapon in the commission of the murders.
A special-circumstance allegation means a defendant could face life in prison or the death penalty.
“My office will work tirelessly to ensure that justice is served in this devastating act of violence, which has shaken our community and left a family forever changed,” District Attorney Nathan Hochman said in a statement. “Let this be a clear message: Those who commit heinous acts of violence will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
De Los Reyes is accused of stabbing to death Rona Nate, Paul Sebastian Manangan and Mia Chantelle Narvaez in their home in the 4700 block of Bogart Avenue. Nate is the mother of the children, according to a GoFundMe account created by a relative.
Public records show and a detective said De Los Reyes also lived at the house. But investigators have not revealed what led to the stabbing and how De Los Reyes is related to the victims.
Baldwin Park police went to the cul-de-sac after a neighbor called 911 to report a disturbance around 6:50 p.m. that night.
Other neighbors heard screaming.
Arriving officers saw the suspect get in a car, speed out of the driveway and crash into a neighbor’s fence, sheriff’s. Lt. Michael Modica said.
De Los Reyes doesn’t have any prior convictions in Los Angeles County, according to court records. As of Tuesday, he was being held without bail at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles.
