Meghan Markle promises to have men lining up to kiss you with New Year fashion tips in unearthed blog post
BEFORE she was known as the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle ran a lifestyle blog called The Tig.
The site offered heaps of recipes, wellness tips and city guides for her readers – as well as some unique styling tips for New Year’s Eve, which have been revealed in an unearthed blog post from over a decade ago.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43, also advised to steer clear of sequins[/caption] The former Suits actress ran a lifestyle blog The Tig[/caption]Around ten years ago, to get in the festive spirit, Meghan, now 43, created a guide to New Year’s Eve dressing in 2014 – and some of the tips can still be applied today, as we fast-approach 2025.
At the time, the former Suits star urged the audience to dress differently than just the typical ”sequined mini dress” which takes over the high street around this time of the year.
The future royal, who tied the knot with Prince Harry in 2018, promised that the tips will leave you looking ”smokin” in the blog post.
”Every year, we all look forward to counting down as the ball drops, champagne glass in hand – all while looking impeccably dressed,” she wrote at the time.
”But the problem year after year is figuring out exactly how to switch up your style routine as the 31st approaches, because wearing a sequined mini dress and heavy smoky eyes just isn’t going to continue to cut it,” the post continued.
”But this year, there’s no need to hem and haw for an entire week before New Year’s Eve – just follow The TIG’s simple guidelines and the only thing you’ll have to worry about come the New Year is who exactly to kiss because you’ll look smokin’. Happy New Year.”
Meghan’s first styling suggestion was to rock a jumpsuit – which remains a classic and is still considered trendy today, over a decade later.
Markle noted that ”there’s rarely a good occasion to try your hand at the one-piece” but New Year’s Eve ”is your best bet since it’s sexy, but not too provocative”.
The mother-of-two also shared that if you’re on the taller side, you’re in ”luck”, as you can sport some of the harder-to-pull off jumpsuits, such as those in vibrant colors.
”If you’re smaller, opt for a sleeveless, more basic version since it’ll draw the eyes towards your legs, which actually look longer in a jumpsuit,” she suggested.
The former actress, who ”ignored royal protocol on her wedding day”, also advised to throw a biker jacket over your maxi dress, explaining that it can help you ”stand out in a crowd”.
”This is a great way to still look chic in colder weather,” she added.
”If it’s really cold, throw on a pair of fleece-lined tights that won’t show through your chiffon skirt.”
Not really feeling a long skirt? Meghan recommended switching it for a ”beaded mini”, claiming that it was ”chicer” than a metallic option.
”Try finding a multi-colored version to have the same stand out effect, but pair with neutrals on the top (like a white chiffon blouse) and bottom (like black lace-up heels),” the stylish mum suggested.
MEGHAN MARKLE'S STUNNING GIVENCHY WEDDING DRESS
Meghan Markle stunned onlookers as she arrived at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, ahead of her nuptials to Prince Harry, in a stunning bespoke gown by Givenchy, created by British designer Clare Waight Keller.
The former Suits actress chose to work with Clare Waight Keller “for her timeless and elegant aesthetic, impeccable tailoring, and relaxed demeanour”.
Meghan wanted to “highlight the success of a leading British talent who has now served as the creative head of three globally influential fashion houses – Pringle of Scotland, Chloé, and now Givenchy”.
Meghan and Clare worked closely together on the design, which featured a graphic open bateau neckline that gracefully frames the shoulders and emphasises Meghan’s slender waist.
For her fourth tip, the Duchess of Sussex proposed that readers could ”wear sequins in an unexpected way”.
”Try a long-sleeved top or, even better, a full-on sequined maxi dress.
”It’s New Years, so it’s time to go big or go home!” she reminded.
Last but not least, Meghan suggested adding a pop of red to your New Year’s outfit – but there are some steps to take to ensure your attire ”stands apart from the one you wore on Christmas”.
”Traditionally, we all stick with black or white while celebrating the New Year, but that’s bo-ring,” she declared.
”Red is the perfect bold hue because it’s definitely festive, but doesn’t feel like you’re just recycling your outfit from Christmas (if you choose the right pieces),” Meghan went on in the post.
”You’ll definitely want to pick something that feels dressed up—a dress with a hint of lace or a detailed skirt with slits all fit the bill.”
