Ange Postecoglou hands Spurs squad short holiday despite Wolves draw
Ange Postecoglou explains why he has decided to send his Spurs players on a short holiday break despite the 2-2 draw to Wolves.
Beleaguered Spurs squad puts up a fight but falls short
While the busy schedule during this time of the year is always challenging for Premier League sides, it has been even more so for Tottenham this season since they are without several of their key players through injury.
That meant that against Wolves, Postecoglou had to start a lot of the stars who played just 72 hours before at the City Ground. As one would expect, the energy levels dropped in the second half, enabling Wolves to fight back and salvage a point.
To make matters worse, Tottenham’s injury list bloated even further, with Destiny Udogie pulling up with a hamstring problem.
Postecoglou makes decision on Spurs squad
Postecoglou confessed after the game that he will now give a few days off to a lot of his players on the back of their recent exertions.
The Australian suggested that the squad needed the rest to recharge their batteries and regain their physical and mental sharpness.
Speaking after the 1-1 draw against Wolves, the Tottenham boss said (via The Express): “We’re asking a lot of a small core group of players. The whole group probably needs a couple of days to get away and recover. It will do them good to go away with their families to recover mentally as much as physically.”
Players look in desperate need of some rest
Postecoglou has used the same set of 14 of 15 players every few days over the last month and a half, and it is natural that they would be fatigued, particularly given Tottenham’s intense style of football.
For the first time in a long time, Spurs have a full week off before their next clash against Newcastle. The Australian is thus doing the right thing by giving his players some time to recharge their batteries.
