WITH New Year just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to spruce up your home for 2025.
And a top interiors expert has revealed her simple 15-second hacks that won’t cost you a penny, which is perfect when everyone is feeling the post-Christmas squeeze.
Blankets and cushions can instantly elevate your sofa[/caption] Kayleigh has a strict rule on the number of cushions you should have on your couch[/caption]Sofa pro Kayleigh Stafford, from Snappy Sofas , says the couch is the heart of your living room.
But general wear and tear can soon leave it looking a little tired.
To give it an instant revamp, Kayleigh has revealed the five easy tricks that will breathe new life into your sofa, and none of them involve spending any money.
Fluff and rotate cushions
First up, Kayleigh reveals her “simple solution” to fixing sofa cushions that have gradually flattened and lost their shape.
She says: “Just give each cushion a good shake and fluff to redistribute the filling.”
She continues: “Be sure to rotate the cushions to even out their use and wear and tear.
“You should pay special attention to the middle seat, which is typically a high-use spot.
“For a professional look, why not create symmetry and place large cushions at either end of the sofa, with smaller ones in the centre?
“A bold-coloured cushion in the centre will also help to draw the eye to the middle.”
Tuck in loose fabric
Fabric that sags can make your sofa look older than it is, which is why you should pull any loose material tight and tuck it into the crevices behind the sofa frame and between cushions.
Kayleigh advises: “Using a ruler or wooden spoon can help you to secure the fabric firmly into place as it creates cleaner lines and gives the appearance of a tailored sofa.”
Reposition throws and cushions
Adding a few throws and decorative cushions is always a great way to fix up a tired-looking sofa.
“Try draping a throw over one arm for a laid-back look or fold it neatly across the back for something more structured”, says Kayleigh.
And she has a simple rule whe it comes to cushions, as she adds: “Play around with different numbers and sizes, but remember that odd numbers work best.
“Don’t be afraid to combine various patterns and textures for extra personality.”
Vacuum dust and debris
If you’re planning a big post-Christmas clean while taking down the decorations and tree, then this next tip is for you.
Kayleigh says: “Your sofa can become a breeding ground for crumbs, dust and food particles and can soon impact the look and feel of your favourite spot.
“For this reason, you should regularly vacuum under the cushions, along seams and crevices.
“The arms and back can collect dust, so focus here too.
“Remember to use a specialist vacuum attachment like a soft bristle head to prevent damage to the fibres. In doing so, you’ll freshen up your sofa and extend its life.”
Level out uneven legs
Finally, Kayleigh insists that a wonky sofa is “uncomfortable and unsightly”.
Furniture pads which cost as little as £1 are a great way to fix uneven legs.
But if you’re looking to keep your revamp cost-free, the sofa expert says: “You could balance the legs on items like folded cardboard or even a stack of coins. Just make sure they are secure and out of sight.”
