90S KIDS are only just realising which ‘iconic’ 2000s show they recognise Gavin and Stacey’s Sonia from and their minds are blown.
If you were one of the 12.3 million TV viewers who sat down on Christmas Day to watch the Gavin and Stacey finale, you will have seen Sonia at the altar alongside Smithy, played by James Corden, 46.
TV enthusiasts are going wild as they only just realise which BBC show Gavin and Stacey’s Sonia starred in back in 2004[/caption] Social media users admitted they were ‘going insane’ trying to remember where they recognised Laura Aikman from – and it’s not Casualty or Waterloo Road[/caption] Laura Aikman made her TV debut in The Mysti Show[/caption] Laura played Mysti, a half-human and half-fairy[/caption]The blonde beauty, who caused quite a stir in the long-awaited episode, is played by actress Laura Aikman, 39.
But Gavin and Stacey isn’t Laura’s first TV appearance – not only did she play Nurse May Phelps in 24 episodes of Casualty, but she also appeared on Waterloo Road back in 2015 too.
As well as this, the star is also known for her roles in Archie, The Job Lot and her recurring character Lucy in the hit BBC Three series Personal Affairs.
Fans will also recognise her from Keith Lemon: The Film, a recent TV biopic about the life and times of Hollywood legend Cary Grant – with Laura playing the actor’s wife Dyan Cannon.
But now, 90s kids are going wild as they are only just realising a lesser-known TV show in which Laura made her TV debut.
Posting on social media, Michaela Shannon, 25, revealed the news to her followers, leaving many open-mouthed.
Alongside a snip of Smithy’s insufferable long-term fiancée, Michaela recognised that Laura’s acting credits go far beyond the hugely popular sitcom.
She wrote: “Sonia may be the iconic role that everyone will forever remember Laura Aikman for but…
“For us 90s/early 00s kids, Mysti was an icon first.”
Michaela then shared a snap of Laura from 2004, when The Mysti Show first hit screens.
Laura Aikman was the star of the British children’s television programme, which aired on BBC from April 2004 to December 2005.
It initially took the format of an hour-long programme but was subsequently reformed into a series of 20-minute shows.
Gavin and Stacey: The Finale wins Christmas Day ratings battle
THE Christmas Day ratings battle was won by Gavin and Stacey: The Finale – with 12.5million viewers and climbing.
Part two of the 2019 BBC special was must-watch telly on Christmas Day.
It spelled the end of Ruth Jones and James Corden‘s series for ever – 17 years after it was first created.
It was a big day for the BBC, with the return of Wallace & Gromit after 14 years bringing in 10m for Vengeance Most Fowl.
And it was a huge Christmas for EastEnders – with an astonishing 8.7m watching Cindy Beale clobbered with a shovel and left for dead.
EastEnders’ huge bounce comes as a result of being aired after Gavin and Stacey.
Just 2.8m tuned in to watch Gail Platt’s goodbye on Coronation Street.
Meanwhile some 5.1m watched The King’s Speech, and 6.9m sat down for the Call The Midwife Christmas Special.
In the show, which was a mix of drama and entertainment, Mysti, who was played by Laura, was a half-human and half-fairy.
The sassy fairy magicked her own unique blend of entertainment and comedy drama, with celebrity guests, and it proved a hit with young fans.
Michaela later added: “This and Kerching! were my absolute faves.”
